Physician Development

The Provider and Student Development section of the Medical Staff Office supports the onboarding of all newly credentialed providers, residents, clinical rotation students and observers. Covenant Health’s promise is to “Know me, care for me, ease my way” and through the onboarding process our goal is to achieve this promise by assimilating these individuals into the Covenant Health Culture successfully. Our personnel work closely with Information Technology Systems, Security, Clinical Informatics, Medical Records and Environmental Services Departments to provide all new providers and students with the appropriate security access, building access, badge, scrubs and training required to be operational on day one of the Covenant Health experience.

And speaking of training, New Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine Residents, Clinical Rotation Students and Observers all attend orientations appropriate to their purpose whereby they will be introduced to the history, culture, policies and procedures of our health system followed by EMR training, if applicable. The intent is to give each person the tools to be successful before they begin their coverage, rotations or observations.

Covenant Health is also proud of its “Teaching Hospital” Designation. We welcome undergraduate students into our observing program averaging 600 Observers per year across all disciplines. Systemwide we have over 100 Affiliation Agreements with higher education institutions across the nation in all specialties which equates to approximately 1,000 or more clinical rotation students that rotate throughout our facilities each year. We are especially proud of the Covenant Branch of the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center School of Medicine established in 2016. Covenant has committed to train 30+ MSIII and 30+ MSIV TTUHSC SOM students yearly at our campuses.
